Revised Admission Arrangements for entry in September 2024
Case ref: ADA4113

On the 21st March 2023, the school received a complaint from the Office of the Schools Adjudicator regarding the school’s published admission arrangements for 2024 entry.

Summary of findings:
The school must publish the Supplementary Information form (SIF) with its admission arrangements in March.
The school was asked to review its Exceptional Musical Talent (oversubscription criteria 3).
The school was asked to review its In Year Admission arrangements for applicants living outside of the school’s published Inner Area and those applicants wishing to apply for a place in Year 11.

In line with the Schools Adjudicator’s determination of the 31st May 2023, we have therefore updated our 2024 admissions arrangements as published here.

Up until 14th July, there were our determined admission arrangements for 2024 entry.

We look forward to welcoming you to our community!

A message for young people hoping to join the Latymer community

Dear Future Latymerian,

Thank you for your interest in joining the Latymer School. We believe that we have a lot to offer you as prospective students, and we are proud of our long and successful history. As a member of the Latymer community, you would not only have the chance to develop your academic knowledge during school hours, but you would also be invited to enjoy a range of exciting extracurricular activities. There is something for everyone; we offer engaging music and drama opportunities, competitive sports, and a wide variety of student-led societies, ranging from Manga to medicine. At Latymer, you would have the chance to build new relationships with other inquisitive students, and you would be given as much support as you need along the way.

If you feel excited about the prospect of joining the Latymer community, we would love to meet you at one of our entrance examination days!

We understand that the prospect of joining a new, bigger school may seem daunting, so take a look at what some of our students had to say about their progression to secondary school at Latymer.

Meet some of our current students who talk about their experiences:

Efrata, 8 Lamb - Cuckoo Hall Primary School

My thoughts about the school before I joined Latymer:
Before I joined Latymer, I had thought that it was extremely strict and solely focused on Education as it was a grammar school. I also thought that everything would be very dull and that students would only care about studies and homework. When I found out that I had got in, I was extremely excited but also worried about how I would cope with homework as in my primary school teachers did not give us any. However, when I came to Latymer I realised that all of this was not true and that there are many other things here like music, drama and my most favourite one out of all-sports. I was especially surprised at the resemblance Latymer held to Hogwarts as I am a Potterhead!

The biggest change between primary and secondary school:
In primary school, I had always been stuck in the same classroom and with the same teachers for every subject. It was very boring. Now, I move around the school a lot and have different teachers who specialise in the subjects they teach. I enjoy that we have different seating plans in lessons as sometimes you end up sitting next to your friends.

My most memorable moment from my time at Latymer so far:
House sport is one of my most memorable moments here. I especially enjoyed basketball and dodgeball as they are one of my favourite sports. I can’t wait until I get to participate in house sport again and I look forward to my next sport in P.E.

Raul, 8 Lamb – Hazelbury Primary School

My thoughts before I joined Latymer:
I have known Latymer for a very long time as my primary school was very close to it. It was not until Year 4 that I heard Latymer was a school for very smart children and from then on I studied, dreaming about getting in. Therefore doing the tests in Year 6 was very nerve racking. When I received the news that I got in, I was very happy. However, just a few days before I had my first day at Latymer I started worrying about the lessons and homework being hard and wondered if I would be the odd one out.

The biggest change between primary and secondary school:
There was a massive difference between primary and secondary school. Firstly, there were a bigger range of subjects and we have to carry out books with us, unlike primary school. Also, you have to move around the whole school from classroom to classroom depending on what subjects you have. Lastly, you get a lot more homework and get to pay for lunch with a card.

The most memorable moment from my time at Latymer:
Although I have only just finished my first term at Latymer I have already made many memories and friends. My favourite memory so far would be when I went to play a football tournament at Edmonton County and won it. Me and the rest of the football team had an amazing time as we all managed to score at least one goal.

Sreyana, 8 Wyatt - Honilands Primary School

My thoughts about the school before I joined Latymer:
When I first heard about the school, I was quite nervous as this school is very famous in North London for having smart children. I had to pass the exam for me to get a place. When I found out that I passed I was really over the moon and excited. As the days approached I was curious about how it will be like in secondary school.

The biggest change between primary and secondary school:
We learn in different classes for each subject so we have to move around the whole school however in primary we learnt in one class. The school was very big so in my first two weeks, I would get lost nearly all the time. Thankfully I know my way around the school now!

The most memorable moment from my time at Latymer:
My most memorable moment at Latymer would be my house assembly. It was very fun having to know how the school would be and meeting new children. Now I am friends with everyone I met on that day including people from other forms that I met during my time at Latymer.

Hamza, 8 Latymer - Cuckoo Hall Primary School

My thoughts of the school before I joined Latymer:
Before I joined this school I knew Latymer as a school with very intelligent pupils. Therefore, when I found out that I got in I was very excited and nervous. This was because I thought I would not be as intelligent as others in my year.

The biggest change between primary and secondary school:
There have been several changes between Latymer and primary. Firstly, it felt different when I was in a school with smart pupils compared to primary. Also, the biggest change was the facilities.

My most memorable moment from my time at Latymer:
My most memorable moment from my time at Latymer was house sport because it was so much fun and it was a great opportunity to enjoy myself and compete against other forms. Another reason why I loved house sport was because of the varieties of activity!!

Perrez, 9 Lamb - Prince of Wales Primary School

My thoughts about the school before I joined Latymer:
In general, I was quite excited to join the Latymer community, since I had worked very hard over the course of a year to get in. I was very proud to get into Latymer, and this was echoed by congratulations and support from my friends and family. My main negative thoughts about Latymer was that it would be posh and filled with geniuses since it was a selective grammar school, and that I would have to live up to the expectations of those around me. After two years, I realised that there is still lots of room for you to work as well as have fun here at Latymer.

The biggest change between primary and secondary school:
I would say the biggest change from primary to secondary school is that everything gets a bit more serious. I know this is a bit clichéd and everyone exaggerates this, but it's true! As soon as you join, the realisation sets in that you are here to seriously and properly learn on a tighter schedule and with more testing. Like I said, you still have space to have fun, but the environment is somewhat less relaxed than primary school, for example all the lessons are very structured with expert teachers in every subject instead of one teacher teaching everything.

My most memorable moment from my time at Latymer so far:
My most memorable moment from Latymer so far was a laughable one in Year 7. We had just finished learning how to say our different opinions about various subjects in German, and our next period was Maths. Just before lesson properly started, I told my Maths teacher "Ich hasse Mathe" (meaning I hate Maths) but I said that it meant that I love Maths! He said that I was his favourite student and that I made his day whilst everyone else was in stitches!

The main thing I have learnt since being at Latymer:
The main thing I've learnt here is that there are so many opportunities available. For example, I have been able to get involved in a choir, and since there is a heavy presence of music in Latymer, have been able to perform different songs in numerous concerts, and have a fun time engaging with other people in the choir. I also joined a dance club after school, and recently we had a dance trip where we learned an intensive routine, talked about the many routes available to take with dance, and performed our own choreography we had learnt in the winter! This was an eye-opener for me.
Finally, I have been able to take part in a new school play. From being in all these events, I realised that Latymer has many ways you can further use your free-time in after school clubs, and some of those ways can be really fun, so if you are coming to Latymer, get involved in a club - you won’t regret it!
