2026 admissions

How to join the Latymer Sixth Form in September 2026.

ADMISSION ARRANGEMENTS FOR ENTRY TO YEAR 12 COMMENCING SEPTEMBER 2026.

The Latymer School Sixth Form is a highly successful and rewarding place to study. Whether continuing as a Latymer student after GCSEs or joining us from a different school, our aim is to make sure that students feel well supported, highly motivated, academically challenged and well-equipped for the next stages in their academic journey. We also want our students to feel confident and considerate, retaining a strong sense of personal identity and independence. This is why it is important that our Sixth Form students are a key part of school life and are given opportunities to lead and shape Latymer.

Please visit this page regularly, as we will update new information as and when it becomes available. The online application form for 2026 is now open - please read below for further information.

Please contact sixthformadmissions@latymer.co.uk if you have any questions.

Meet some of our Year 13 students who share their experiences of joining the Sixth Form last year.

Lizzie

Lizzie is studying French, History, Maths and Music.

Coming from a non-selective school, what drew me to Latymer was its reputation for being more academically rigorous. I felt that Latymer would give me the chance to meet like-minded pupils and feel challenged within a supportive environment. Another hugely motivating factor for applying was the strength of the Music department - I was eager to be part of a school that values music so highly.

I love that there’s always so much going on outside of lessons to get involved in which means that your time in the Sixth Form can be about so much more than just A Levels. A personal highlight was working on the school’s history magazine, which also helped prepare me for university applications. I’ve also loved taking part in the wide range of music extracurriculars that offer both solo and ensemble opportunities. From singing with the Chamber Choir, to helping organise the Pop Jazz concert with my A Level Music class, to taking part in the Senior Production, I’ve had so much fun keeping busy with the many music events across the year.

If you’re passionate about learning and want to be part of a friendly community, I would highly recommend applying to Latymer. Starting a new school in the Sixth Form can feel daunting, but I was immediately made to feel welcome by my year group and have found my time at Latymer to be very rewarding.

Billy

Billy is studying Economics, English Literature and History.

I was initially attracted to joining the Latymer Sixth Form due to its prestigious academic reputation, but after attending the open evening and speaking to various Latymerians about the school, I saw that it was also an extremely welcoming and friendly environment, which further deepened my attraction to come here.

I would strongly encourage any Year 11 student thinking of joining our Sixth Form to do so. I am extremely glad that I came here as it provides an ideal environment to thrive both academically and socially. Being surrounded by like-minded and ambitious people is bound to bring the best out of you in your studies, and although it may seem daunting to enter the school as an external student, I can assure you that you will be welcomed with open arms and settle in very easily!

My favourite extracurricular activity so far is probably representing the school in the English Schools Cross Country Cup. After passing through three rounds, we were able to qualify for the national final in Leeds. Travelling up there to compete was a fantastic experience and we were able to perform very well as a team, placing in the top 20 schools in the country.

Lotte

Lotte is studying English Literature, German and Religious Studies.

The students were my biggest reason for joining. At the open day, I was toured by exceptionally enthusiastic and enthralling people who displayed a real love for learning but also for the school environment. The impression I got was that Latymer welcomed curious interested individuals with open arms, and I wanted to be one of them. Not only were the students persuasive but the teachers too. I felt real passion from their speeches where they treated the newcomers not as children at but as full people whose opinions and thoughts were valid. This has indisputably rang true for my experience as a student at Latymer too.

I love all that the Humanities department at Latymer has to offer. I co-run the Philosophy, Theology, and Ethics Society, as well as attend the Debate Society, which have been wonderful spaces for open discussion and extracurricular learning, allowing me to connect with students across years with similar interests. Latymer also has offered many fun trips like going to the theatre or talks, for example the National Theatre to see Hamlet.

I would recommend to anyone remotely interested to apply with an open mind. I joined as an external for Sixth Form and was nervous initially about changing schools but my time at Latymer has been even more most positive and enriching than I could have ever dreamed.

Nancy

Nancy is studying Art, English Literature and Religious Studies.

I got such a good impression of the school on the open day, everyone seemed really lovely, passionate, and interested, which I knew would be such a brilliant environment to be in for Sixth Form. Studying English, RE, and Art, I’ve got such incredible teachers who make learning so enriching and approachable and I think this is such a real merit of the whole school.

There’s a lot of interesting things going on in the school, in and out of the classroom, which make the Sixth Form experience really enjoyable. The societies are such a great opportunity to share ideas and be involved and the theatre trips have been such a great way to engage with English literature.

I really recommend Latymer as a school where students’ interests are deepened and the teachers are infectiously passionate about their subjects!

Katherine

Katherine is studying Biology, English Literature and History.

Initially, it was Latymer’s academic excellence that drew me to its Sixth Form. However, having now attended the school, I can confidently say that its close-knit community is by far its best quality. Since starting here, I have been warmly welcomed as a Latymerian and have enjoyed my time so far.

Studying four A levels before specialising into three has enabled me to discern my academic interests as well as cultivate vital skills that have made the transition into Year 13 more manageable.

Latymer offers a wide range of supercurricular activities that is unparalleled elsewhere. Regular emails are sent out to inform students of opportunities for various university courses and apprenticeships. However, what makes Latymer distinct is its multitude of student-led societies which cater to the many interests of students. Attending the Eco Society last year allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of the environment and opened up opportunities such as conducting school surveys and presenting in assembly.

Teachers at Latymer are truly unmatched; their passion and scope of knowledge is contagious. The teaching style at Latymer assists each student to develop an intellectual curiosity and genuine interest in their studies, which is evidenced in Latymer's outstanding results.

Clara

Clara is studying English Literature, History and Religious Studies.

The Sixth Form open day, and especially the students I met there, changed my mind completely about the school. I had supposed it old and stuffy but everyone I talked to on the day were engaging and filled with genuine enthusiasm with their subjects. I knew I wanted a school that was going to make me want to work hard, but it was the atmosphere of real enjoyment for academia from the students and the teachers that made me think Latymer was where I wanted to be.

The societies I joined in Year 12 have been fun because I got to spend time with people in different years, which helped me live more of the Latymer school experience I may have missed out on by joining in Year 12 rather than in Year 7. I now co-run the Philosophy, Theology and Ethics Society (PhilThy) in hope of continuing that on.

My top advice would be: don't bring clique-ey misconceptions from your old school. I think Latymer is more integrated than others. Join with a fresh mindset.

Application process

There are three parts to the application.

  • An application form: personal details and subject choices.
  • A personal statement, outlining academic interests and involvement in extracurricular activities.
  • A test for any applicant wanting to do any of the following subjects: Maths, Biology, Chemistry or Physics. The tests have been designed to emphasise rational thinking. Advanced preparation or revision is not required. If you are doing GCSEs you are capable of doing the test. Don’t panic and do not be put off applying. Please check the document at the bottom of the page for further practical details.

The total test time is 72 minutes. Plus approx 50 mins settling/instructions/practice time spread over the different parts. The test is divided into three parts:

  • Non-verbal reasoning (using shapes): 20 minutes
  • Verbal reasoning and number reasoning: 26 minutes
  • Spatial and figure analysis (using patterns and numbers): 26 minutes
  • Each section will start with a marked example and some practice questions. It is not knowledge based but tests thinking skills.

Please note that there are no practice materials or past papers for these tests, so please do not contact the school.

Entry requirements for Mathematics and the Sciences

Each year the Mathematics and Science courses at the Latymer Sixth Form are oversubscribed. This means that it is unfortunately necessary to limit the number of offers given in these subjects.

In the interest of fairness, new candidates wishing to study these subjects are required to take an entrance examination, which is then used to rank order applicants. Places on the course will be awarded using this ranking system.

Students must meet all entry requirements for their place to be confirmed after GCSE results.

Entry requirements for non-Maths and Science subjects

  • If you select four subjects that don’t include any Maths or Science subjects, then you do not have to sit the test.
  • Your offer will be based on GCSE predictions from your existing school and spaces available in your chosen subjects. You will be sent a form that needs to be completed by your existing school and returned to the Latymer School.
  • You will not be allowed to switch to Maths/Science courses if you haven’t sat the test. So if there is any chance that you may want to do Maths/Science A Levels then please sit the test.

Selection process

  • There is a postcode criteria (see above for the full list).
  • The test will be used to rank students.
  • A conditional offer will be made to the 60 to 80 highest ranked students. This is dependent on spaces being available in your selected subjects.
  • This offer will be 6 level 7s at GCSE, including level 7s in your chosen subject choices - where applicable. A minimum of A Level 5 is required in Maths and English for all students.
  • If you meet the conditional offer and there is spare capacity in your chosen subjects, we may be able to offer additional places. We will consider the achieved GCSE grades. Each year between 15 and 20 students get offers in this way.

Available spaces

  • We tend to be heavily oversubscribed for the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics.
  • We tend to have more places available in the following subjects: Art, Media and Russian.
  • Your chances of getting a conditional offer will be greater if you select a combination of the above under-subscribed subjects with Economics, English, French, Geography, History, Music, Politics and Religious Studies.
  • Your greatest chance of getting a conditional offer is if you select a combination containing all under-subscribed subjects.
  • You will not be allowed to switch to the oversubscribed subjects once you have a conditional offer.

Please visit the Sixth Form section for more information about the programme of study, subjects available to study and A Level choices.
