Islamophobia Awareness Month (IAM)
06/12/2024

Promoting inclusion and kindness at school
Each November marks IAM, and this year, students at Latymer discussed how Islamophobia is represented in the mainstream media, as well as hearing stories about inspirational Muslims and their contributions to society. The theme of IAM 2024 was 'Seeds of Change', emphasising the importance of small actions which contribute to big change.
Some students then created leaves for our 'Tree of Kindness' to highlight small acts of kindness that can contribute to a more positive, inclusive culture - these have been displayed on the kindness tree next to the Library.
Some of the messages shared were
- "Make sure to always support each other and look out for each other. Always check up on people and smile and give them a compliment that could make their day. Always be inclusive and treat people kindly."
- "Be an active bystander by reporting Islamophobic language and other forms of Islamophobia."
