Year 8 basketball

Year 8 Junior NBA

A massive congratulations to the Year 8 basketball squad, who successfully repeated last year’s success in the Jnr NBA. The Jnr NBA is a Basketball England competition across London (and also takes place in a number of other cities across England), which sees schools compete as NBA teams to establish who is the best Basketball team across London. This year we are representing the Denver Nuggets.

The current Year 8 team made it through to the Final 4's last year and set out this year, hoping to repeat their success of fourth place in London and perhaps go one step further. Having gained confidence through winning the Enfield Borough League this year, without losing a single game, the team finished the group stage of the competition with an impressive record - played 8, won 7, lost 1, record. The single loss being a one-point nail biter against Greig City.

Having qualified as 1st seed in the Western Conference, they were matched up with Bishopshalt School, Uxbridge (seed 8) in the quarter- finals. The team came out with all guns blazing for their quarter-final. A confident 48-12 win, saw them draw a difficult opposition in the conference semi-final - Queens Park Community School (seed 4). The team once again started red hot and was leading 21-10 at half-time but the tenacious QPCS team would not go down quietly. A tough encounter saw the team scrape through 29-28 to see them return to the final 4s for the second year in a row.

Congratulations to everyone who has played their part and a big thank you to Mr Savcenko for supporting this team with such an impressive run to the finals for the second year in succession.
