Year 10 success

Cambridge Business Programme Competition

In January there was an opportunity for 14-19 year olds to enter the Cambridge Business Programme competition with Camstart; a month-long programme which required students to come up with an idea that would make the world a better place, develop it into a full business pitch (with guidance), and then pitch their idea to a panel of real consultants to win a cash prize to invest into their business.

India in Year 10 entered and came 2nd, winning £250! Here is her experience:

"We were asked to investigate an issue in society and create a social enterprise based on it. I saw an issue with the number of animals that are surrendered to shelters throughout the UK and how adopting from these shelters is really inaccessible.

When it got to the market research stage of the program, I conducted a survey which I sent to local shelters. From these surveys I concluded that the main reason why animals are so hard to get adopted is due to the lack of experience in marketing from shelters.

I then came up with my business idea Buddy which is a website that showcases shelter animals across the UK making it more accessible for both the shelters and the adopters to view or promote pets more efficiently. After coding the website and investigating further on the impacts that social media has on increasing adoption rates, I pitched the idea and answered questions on its impact, scalability and how it would run as a business.
