New Chair of Governors elected
After nine years as Chair of Governors, Stephen Way has decided that this is his final term in this role and indeed as a governor at The Latymer School.
As a Latymerian, Stephen has been passionate about ensuring that our school provides exciting and rigorous opportunities for our young people. He has championed Latymer with a real ambition to ensure the school develops and moves forward, without compromising on our wonderful history.
As Mr Gilford comments "In my eighteen months as Headteacher, Stephen has been a wonderful support and on behalf of the governors, trustees and staff, I would like to say a massive thank you for everything he has done. Stephen will continue to be a Trustee on the Latymer Foundation where his knowledge and insight will be invaluable. I am also delighted to share that Carolin Schönherr has been elected as the new Chair of Governors. She brings a wealth of skills and experience as a parent of a child at the school. I look forward to working with her more closely as our new Chair and have no doubt that her passion for Latymer, coupled with excellent attention to detail and sound judgement, will enable her to fulfil the role successfully. Please do take time to read her introduction below."
Message from the new Chair of Governors
I am writing as the newly elected Chair of Governors, and I would like to begin with thanks.
Stephen Way has stepped down as Chair after many years of service to Latymer. His steady judgement, and his generosity with his time, have shaped the school through a period of real change, including the appointment of our Headteacher. The board owes him a great deal, and I am glad he remains a governor until the end of the year.
My thanks also to Mr Gilford and the leadership team, and to all staff, for the care and ambition they bring to the school every day; and to the Latymer Foundation, whose continuing support does so much for our students.
Latymer has been educating young people for over four hundred years. My vision for the board is straightforward: To provide the conditions in which teaching and learning are at their most effective, faithful to that long tradition while meeting the demands of the present. Our role is to support the school and to ask the right questions, so that it remains well run, well-resourced and well prepared for what comes next in its tradition of helping students achieve at the highest level while growing in confidence and consideration for others.
I look forward to meeting many of you during the year,
Carolin Schönherr
Chair of Governors
