Our team of five a side football posing in front of goal posts

Borough 5-a-side Champions!

Last Wednesday, the Year 8 football team took part in the annual 5-a-side competition. Losing last year’s final on penalties was heartbreaking, so the boys were keen to do one better!

The groups were drawn, with Latymer facing Kingsmead and Aylward. Both matches were convincing wins: 10–1 and 9–4 saw Latymer safely through to the semi-finals against the hosts, Edmonton County. Both sides started the match cautiously, not wanting to concede, but very quickly the floodgates opened. A barrage on the Edmonton County goal ensued and, before you knew it, Latymer had won convincingly, 10–2.

The final proved to be our closest game of the tournament. Oasis Hadley had also enjoyed a smooth run to the final, winning their group before beating Enfield Grammar 7–3 in the semi- final. Latymer started just as they had finished their semi-final, racing into a 4–0 lead. Oasis showed great resilience and scored the next three goals to make it 4–3. The match was a physical affair, with neither team willing to budge. Goals were exchanged as Latymer extended their lead, only for Oasis to pull one back each time. The final score was 7–5 — a fantastic win for Latymer!

A massive well done to everyone involved: Sam, Hugo, Ivan, Maksim, Jakey, Vincent and Ted!
