U14 Middlesex Cup Champions!

The Middlesex County Cup is a cricket competition open to all schools in Middlesex to determine an overall champion and this year was our year! Very rare to see a state school reach the finals day, let alone beat a number of private schools along the way.

The U14 boys team played through four rounds before reaching the final, each presenting a different challenge on route but always coming out on top. On Tuesday 16th June the final was played in Harrow against The Hampton School who defeated the mighty Merchant Taylor’s the round previous.

Latymer had to field first and in the baking sun managed to put out a strong bowling attack. As a team, the boys kept economy low which restricted the number of runs Hampton were able to score. Regular moments of brilliance meant that no single batter was able to settle in at the crease because, before you knew it, the batter was either caught or their bails were sent on the Year 7 residential trip. Max, Arann, Qasim and Rhiyan with the help from Zakariya, Ed and Aryan helped restrict Hampton’s innings to 193-9 (35.0)

After lunch, it was our turn to have a bat. 194 runs was achievable but it did require our batters to be smart. And smart they were! Taking few risks Max and Arann were able to build up a partnership of 168 before Arann was caught out on 62 from 62 balls. By the time Qasim made it to the middle the boys knew they just needed to see the game out and glory would be theirs.

The Latymer School was able to chase down the total with 8 overs to spare!

An extra special shout out has to go out to Max. Max hit 117* off 93 balls with 20 boundaries whilst picking up 3 wickets with an economy of 3.43. An incredible stat line which was recognised by Ex-England Cricketer Gus Fraser who presented Max with the match ball to commemorate his performance.

Well done to all involved in achieving something so grand!
