South East Chamber Music Competition
The Latymer Sixth Form piano quintet got selected for the final of the South East Chamber Music Competition and they played incredibly well. Although we didn’t win, the standard was astonishing and our students definitely held their own (we were the only state school to be represented in the final in the Senior category).
As Billy comments “It was a pleasure and a privilege to take part in the final of the South East Schools’ Chamber Competition at St George’s, Hanover Square (Handel’s old church!) this year. I’m so grateful I got to play such a wonderful piece with my friends, and to be part of the journey from our first slightly stuttering rehearsal to performing — and really communicating — as a chamber group in the final. I know I speak for all of us when I say we’re incredibly grateful to Ms Drury, Head of Strings at Latymer and our amazing coach, without whom we’d never have managed to pull this very difficult piece together. On behalf of all of us, thank you — and on a personal note, thank you to my fellow musicians for making it such an enjoyable experience!”
Two of our five members hadn’t actually done chamber music before so we couldn’t be prouder of Billy, Ella, Hannah, Evie and Leo!
