Another year of wonderful exchange on all things career related.
On Friday 6th February, we held our much-anticipated annual Careers Fair. The event featured participation from 192 Year 10 students and over 170 Sixth Form students, who received expert advice from over 40 speakers working at the forefront of a wide range of sectors, including medicine, civil service, law and television.
The event was extremely well received by the 350 plus students, who were offered a valuable opportunity to gain insight and clarity into industries and professions of interest, opening their mind to the wide range of possibilities that are available to them.
This is something that particularly resonated with Year 12 student Ismael, who explained the merit of the event. “The talks at the Careers Fair were informative and enriching. In particular, it was extremely beneficial to hear from a top civil servant, Nick Dean. His lived experience and insights into different industries made him a compelling speaker. I also really enjoyed hearing all the different and often non-linear career paths the speakers took. Lastly, the variety was really refreshing as each speaker had something unique to offer.”
Nick Dean, class of 1994, also spoke of his positive experience of the day. “I found the event a really valuable way of connecting with the hopes (and fears) of the students in a way simply not possible in the day job. It’s also a great way to offer an insight into real life beyond the school gates. I got a lot of satisfaction helping to inspire and guide the students towards rewarding careers in my sector.”
Several other speakers echoed this sentiment, expressing their enjoyment of the event and sense of reward fostered by speaking to our students:
- Amy Smith, class of 1999: “It's a real privilege to get to speak to Latymer students. They are engaged, ask insightful questions and have admirable ambitions for their futures. It feels especially rewarding, as an alumni, to give back to the school that gave me so much.”
- Jayesh Shah, class of 2004: “As the world of work becomes increasingly complex and tough for the next generation, careers advice becomes even more important. I really value the opportunity to be able to give advice to Latymer students each year and to help them think more broadly about the range of careers available.”
- Sarah Dowling, former parent: "I always love attending the careers fair. The children are wonderful and there are always some moments where something you say sparks real interest."
- Shumontha Dev, parent: "A great day to speak to pupils keen on a career in Medicine and already started researching that journey to a successful career!"
The Latymer School is incredibly fortunate to be able to call on such a plethora of talented and enthusiastic alumni, who generously gave their time to give back to our current students, offering them an exciting glimpse into the range of prospects that awaits them in the working world.
We would like to offer a huge thanks to all our alumni, current & former parents and school supporters who donated their time and expertise to speak on the day: Indrajit Advani, Stephen Athanasiou, Billy Bartram, Ian Bates, Gurpreet Bhatti, Eme Brasnett, Dominic Bray, Olivia Carter, Bhavisha Chotai, Gautam Datta, Nick Dean, Shumontha Dev, Brahman Dharmarajah, Sapna Divani, Jacqueline Dobreva-Skevington, Sarah Dowling, Naomi Frederick, Chris Gale, Amory González Juárez, Arun Gulati, Tom Hudson, Mike Jordanou, Georgeena Jose, Maya Kirlew, KPMG UK, Izaac Mammadov, Callum McCarthy, Lucy Molloy, Ivar Morganti, Annakan Navaratnam, Simon Ogden, Bhavisha Patel, Brian Pope, Richard Quintian, David Raedeker, Ravi Sawhney, Jayesh Shah, Olga Small, Amy Smith, Matt Sykes, Kris Yi and Sof Yiannakas.
