Arrangements for Autumn Term 2020
Our new term begins on Saturday, 12 September, but we will not be returning to face-to-face lessons at School until it is prudent to do so. All tutors will continue to teach on line for the time being, and we will contact parents when we are ready to resume our normal Saturday morning programmes. Meanwhile we have vacancies for tuition on all instruments and music theory.
If you wish to contact the Music Centre, please do so by email: email@example.com
We currently have vacancies for violin, cello, double bass and guitar.
President Mr Geoffrey Mills MA
Background The Latymer Saturday Music Centre is an independent Music Centre which is open to ALL children from reception upwards. The activities take place at The Latymer School, Edmonton, on Saturday mornings, during term time. Since it was founded in 1994, hundreds of children in and around Enfield and North London have benefited from the music education it provides.
Musicianship Classes 4-11 year olds, (Reception - Year 6) These classes aim to develop musicianship through a variety of musical games and activities. Emphasis is given to the acquisition of aural skills, musical literacy and co-ordination, which are so important for learning to play a musical instrument.
Instrumental Tuition 6-18 year olds, (Years 2-13) Lessons are available from a team of highly qualified specialist teachers on the following instruments:
- Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass
- Guitar, Harp
- Recorder, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Bassoon
- French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium
- Percussion (orchestral and drum kit)
Tuition on other instruments can be arranged where there is sufficient demand. Advice is given on children's suitability or readiness to play a particular instrument. Instrument lessons are normally offered to children from year 2 and upwards, for younger children only certain instruments are recommended
Music theory lessons are also available
DEMONSTRATION CONCERT This takes place annually and gives parents and children an opportunity to hear, see and try out the instruments which are offered and also to meet some of the teachers!
PUPILS' CONCERTS There are regular opportunities to perform at concerts, both formal and informal. These help teachers to monitor progress, while giving pleasure to parents and friends. They are usually held towards the end of term.
ENSEMBLES The Centre provides ensembles for strings, recorders and has a flute choir. These provide valuable experience in playing a musical instrument with others.
EXAMINATIONS Associated Board and Trinity Guildhall graded examinations can be taken when appropriate. The Centre enters a large number of candidates at regular intervals with excellent results.
