Our Sixth Form students put on a great show!
On Tuesday 14th April, the Sixth Form Wellbeing Ambassadors led the Sixth Form Talent Show: another excellent initiative to boost mood among Year 12 and 13 students, and a fun opportunity for students to showcase their talents in a supportive and fun environment!
The event, which took place in a packed Sixth Form common room, featured a variety of exciting and unusual acts, from solos and duets to an a cappella group, and beyond music, dance performances; juggling; an impressive magic trick involving cards and audience participation; and even a dramatic poetry reading set to Mozart’s Lacrimosa.
The event was extremely well received by both students and staff: attendance was high and many acts received raucous applause and cheers, with teachers saying they’d “never seen anything like it before”. One Year 12 student in the audience said it was “awesome” and that they “loved it”, while another added, “it was so entertaining!”
Though competition was fierce, with the judging panel of teachers impressed by every act, ultimately the winning prize went to Apple Bottom Jeans girls, a trio of Year 13 students who performed an impressive dance routine to Flo Rida’s Low. Ms Tyrrell, a judge, commented on the decision: “your energy, your smiles, and your choreography were all amazing.”
Especially at this stressful time of year, with Year 12s and 13s soon sitting UCAS, AS, and A-Level exams, initiatives like the Talent Show are incredibly important for students as they allow them to balance out revision with fun, relaxation, and time with friends, which are all essential for preventing burn out and maintaining good wellbeing. Furthermore, the Talent Show was praised for bringing the entire Sixth Form as well as many staff together in an environment of support and friendly competition. Romilly, a Year 12 student in the audience, said, “it made me feel part of a community.”
Congratulations again to Apple Bottom Jeans girls and all other performers, and many thanks to the student Wellbeing Ambassadors and Ms Brander, lead of emotional wellbeing for Sixth Form, for organising and hosting this brilliant event!
