Top result for Year 12 students
Congratulations to Kian and Shaan, Year 12 students, for being part of the winning team at the national final of the UK Space Design Competition! That’s an incredible result and we’re all very proud of their achievement.
Having won their regional heats earlier this year in Nottingham, Kian and Shan then moved to the final at Imperial University. They were part of a team of 60, from an initial entry of over 1,100 students
Kian tells us more about the event: “The competition started at 10.30am on Saturday 7th March and we handed in our presentations at 8.am on Sunday 8th. The goal was to design a settlement on the moon to attract tourists, harvest lunar ice for fuel, and produce food for deep space missions. We stayed at a hotel overnight, with numerous team members (ourselves included) working overnight with people choosing to get as little as an hour of sleep. Everyone was really happy about the result as we put our all into the competition, and it was really rewarding.”
Shaan added “Although it was a very tiring and challenging competition, we both thoroughly enjoyed competing and collaborating with individuals from other schools, as it was something neither of us had previously had the chance to experience!”
They now have a chance to advance to the international finals in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The UK judges will pick two teams of 12 people from everyone who competed at the nationals. Fingers crossed for our amazing Design & Technology students!
