Learning about dachas
Last week, Year 11, 12 and 13 Latymer Russian students were invited to Harrow School in order to spend an afternoon learning about Dachas (Russian holiday houses) and their cultural significance.
Leila, Year 13 student, tells us about their visit: "After a presentation on how a typical day at the Dacha would be spent, we were able to try a wide array of different foods, including ‘blinis’ (Russian pancakes) and pirogi and chat to the pupils from St. Paul’s, Presdales and James Allen’s schools.
We then had the incredible opportunity of learning to play the Balalaika (a traditional Russian instrument), before finishing the evening playing some Russian games, including ‘Masha and Yasha’. All in all, it was an unforgettable afternoon, and we are very grateful to Harrow School for allowing us to participate."
