Medical interview advice from former Latymerian

This week, future medics, dentists and vets were given the opportunity to listen to Dr Rishi Chopra, Class of 1996, a GP with his own practice and a member of the Imperial College Medical School interview panel. Dr Chopra explained how although interview questions haven’t changed much over the years, success comes from early preparation and keeping up to date with medical news and current healthcare advances or issues.

He also explained how Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) involve short stations testing different skills like empathy, ethical reasoning, teamwork and communication. He gave both specific advice for the interviews, with an insight into how Imperial marks interviewees, and general advice to stay calm, structured, and genuine, and to mentally reset between stations in order to confidently move on.

As Tamara, Year 13 student, explains "The talk was informative, interactive, and practical, and definitely made many of us feel more prepared for our next steps towards studying medicine. I’m very grateful that Latymer organises opportunities like this for us, as it makes the process feel less overwhelming, and much more achievable."
