Tayana Sawh, former Head Girl and class of 2019, delivered an insightful talk to MedSoc, focusing on the structured approach of Dr ABC in emergency medicine and its application in managing cases of haematemesis. She emphasised the importance of systematically assessing and prioritising airway, breathing, and circulation to stabilise patients experiencing severe upper gastrointestinal bleeding.
Tayana also showed images of upper gastrointestinal tract anatomy to enhance understanding, highlighting potential causes. Her presentation underscored the critical role of rapid intervention to prevent hypovolaemic shock and demonstrated a clear grasp of emergency protocols.
As Mithraya, Year 13, comments "It was an informative talk and extremely helpful to have an ex-student in her final year of studying medicine to be able to answer our questions and share her experience."
