Holocaust Memorial Day
30/01/2025

Special school assembly
Linus, Year 7 student, tells us about this assembly:
Today, the Year 7 students attended a very important and moving assembly about Holocaust Memorial Day, which is commemorated annually on 27th January. We learnt about how and why the Holocaust happened, its effects, and the devastating impact that genocide has on a wide range of people, both during the event and for the generations that follow.
I believe this is a subject that is important to so many people that everyone needs to know about it. It was enlightening to realise that the beginning of a genocide can seem so subtle; the Holocaust started with verbal discrimination and escalated to mass murder so quickly.
The assembly reminded my fellow pupils and me that no form of discrimination is ever acceptable. Hearing the stories from Holocaust survivors makes us more empathetic and compassionate. By studying the Holocaust, we can recognise the warning signs of genocide and mass violence, helping to prevent such terrible events in the future.
