Women & Girl in Sports

Teachers sharing their experience

This year we celebrated 'Women & Girls in Sport Day' on Wednesday 5th February. To acknowledge this, Miss Fenner and Miss Barrell conducted a talk to the Year 8-11 girls in their recent PE lessons and shared their personal experiences growing up as women in sport.

The focus of the talks was to highlight potential barriers that girls may face when participating in physical activity and sport both in school and as they grow older. The students discussed various challenges, how to overcome
them and the benefits that physical activity has on their emotional, social and physical health. Both Miss Barrell and Miss Fenner were very impressed with how well the students responded and hope they are inspired to get involved in more physical activity and sport in the future!

"I really enjoyed the talk, and I thought it was both intriguing and shocking to hear all of the statistics about how fewer girls exercise than boys, and I found it interesting to discuss why this might be and what we could do to combat it. I also found it fascinating to learn that women and girls actually perform better in sports when on their period!" Arwen (Year 9)

"I really enjoyed learning about how powerful women in sport can be and that just because you are a girl that doesn't stop you from playing the sports or doing the things you are passionate about just because its something "only boys can do or play"." Amelia (Year 8)
