Embracing diversity at Latymer
On Friday 27th June, we celebrated Culture Day - a vibrant and meaningful occasion that highlights the rich cultural diversity of our school community.
Students and staff were invited to wear traditional cultural dress, creating a colourful and inclusive atmosphere throughout the day. Across the school, departments embraced the opportunity to explore global perspectives through their lessons.
In Maths, students designed Yantras, linking mathematical patterns with artistic and spiritual traditions. In English, students read and discussed stories from around the world, reflecting on the importance of engaging with voices beyond our own cultural experiences. In French, Year 12 students explored the work of Black French writers from former French colonies and overseas territories. The lesson focused on how these authors used literature to express themes of colonial history, slavery remembrance, black pride, and resistance. In Economics,
Year 12 students presented overviews of economies linked to their heritage or developing nations.
Meanwhile, in Politics, students explored the political system of Peru, comparing its features with the UK’s. These are just a few examples of the exciting and thought-provoking activities that took place. To top it off, the Art
Department ran a popular henna workshop during lunch, which added an extra creative touch to the day’s celebrations.
Culture Day is an important reminder of the strength we find in diversity, and we are proud to see our students engaging so thoughtfully and enthusiastically in celebrating it.
