2023 starts with a musical bang

Our Music Department has seen a flurry of activities in January.

Concert, workshop and trip to St Paul's Cathedral

It has been a particularly busy January for our Sixth Form music students, in and out of the classroom.

Our Sixth Form Chamber Concert involved a large number of solo and small ensemble performances, including three a cappella groups, two Piano Duets, an Oboe Quintet and a Guitar Ensemble.

Year 12 Music students enjoyed a talk from Professor Paul Archbold, parent of a former Latymerian and Lecturer at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. As Will, a student, comments “It was inspiring to find out about the evolution of electronic music and to gain insight and context relevant to our study of a modern set work for cello and electronics.”

Year 12 Music students also went to see a choir rehearsal and Evensong at St Paul's Cathedral.  Elsa, a student, explained “It was a privilege to have access to a rehearsal with professional choristers and really interesting to hear the music performed in an iconic cathedral setting - and a 12-second echo!”
