Official Opening of The Latymer Sports and Dining Hall Complex by HRH The Princess Royal

We were delighted and honoured HRH the Princess Royal was able to officially open the Latymer Sports and Dining Hall Complex on Thursday 18th May 2006. This is the latest in a long line of improvements and additions to the school buildings and reflects the changing needs of both the school and its pupils.

Click here to view the Gallery During The Princess Royal’s tour she was able to see many sports in action and meet a number of students and guests. Together with the Patron of the Sports Campaign, George Alagiah, BBC newsreader, Ian Pilsworth, chair of Governors and Mark Garbett head teacher, Her Royal Highness proceeded to the Great Hall where over 1000 students, teachers and guests witnessed the unveiling of the plaque commemorating this occasion.

Ian Pilsworth warmly welcomed our royal visitor and George Alagiah spoke of the vision of Geoffrey Mills (head teacher 1983 – 1998) in 1995 to improve drama and sports facilities. With the help of many, and the support of the Governors, a Campaign began for these improvements. Michael Cooper (head teacher 1995 – 2005) continued to guide the Campaign Committee raising funds necessary to allow central government financial support for the new facility. Eleven years on, this wonderful new facility, the final phase of this project the new Sports and Dining Hall Complex is being used by current students and will be available for many generations of Latymerians to come.
