The Latymer Link - page 7

I
t was always likely that Latymer would be a football school. This probability was made a certainty by the
appointment of Jimmy North, mathematics graduate of London University, qualified football referee and the
school’s first Senior Master. Whilst he was not hostile to rugby Jimmy felt that football was the game for a
working class area like Edmonton, particularly as it would allow for a wide range of local fixtures. In his view
it was in the natural order of thing that boys played football in the winter and cricket in the summer. With the
sudden and unexpected death of Richard Ashworth, Jimmy North became headmaster for two terms until a
new permanent headmaster Victor Davis could be appointed.
