ur school play this year was the musical “Fiddler on the Roof” which attracted large audiences to the
Great Hall for three nights towards the end of November. Performed by students from Years 10 – 13, the
production featured a large cast of actors, singers and dancers and was led by Toby Cook in the demanding
role of the milkman Tevye, who was on stage for practically the whole show. His wife Golde was played by
Katie Allen and his three older daughters by Alice Sedgwick, Louise Bachelor and Chloe Payne. Telling the
story of Tevye and his community and the ways in which both he and the others struggle to come to terms
with changes to their traditional way of life, the production also featured strong performances from Dominic
Skingle, Rory Bayliss-Chalmers and Jack Edmondson as the daughters’ three suitors and also from Noah
Geelan and Clara Potter-Sweet as the butcher Lazar Wolf and as Yentl the matchmaker, respectively. With a
large number of students in the band and a substantial backstage and technical team, “Fiddler on the Roof”
was certainly a very popular choice for our school production and a full review of the performance will be
appearing in the school magazine later in the year.
