The Latymer Link - page 16

his year’s Lecture Series has been a great success and has welcomed students from a range of years as
well as speakers from all over the country. The aim of the lecture series is to extend our students knowledge
across a range of subjects and deepen their understanding of what a career in certain areas would be like in
the future. The guest speakers we have listened to this year all have vast experience in their subject areas as
well being incredibly passionate when promoting their fields to our students. They all kindly agreed to share
their knowledge and enthusiasm with us and we are extremely grateful for their crucial role in the Lecture
Series this year.
Many of our speakers work at institutions of Higher Education however we do also get a range of professionals
working in the financial, medical, development and media sectors. Some of the highlights from this year’s
Lecture Series have included a visit from Chris Goldson – Creative Sales Director at ITV who gave fantastic
insight in to the glamour and the grind of working in television. We welcomed Medecins Sans Frontieres who
provided an analysis on the role of medical aid and an update on the fight against Ebola and have also heard
from a number of ex-Latymerians including Dr Omar McDoom who gave a vivid description of the difficulties
and satisfaction of doing political research in challenging environments.
We hope that you have found this a stimulating and enjoyable event this year and that you will return next
year for a new slate of engaging lecturers. If you have any suggestions for future topics or guest speakers,
please do let us know so that we can make sure that students interests are being catered to.
