The Latymer Link - page 23

ver the years, we have seen an impressive increase in both participation and achievement in girls’ sport
at Latymer; however, this year, we have seen it reach an exceptionally high standard. Increased participation
and commitment from everyone involved has resulted in all our teams being seen as the ‘ones to beat’
through Enfield.
In Netball all five teams made it to the semi-finals of the Enfield Schools Tournaments, and three were
victorious. Since our Year 10 team first started training together as year 7s, to this day they still remain the
unbeaten tournament winners. Netball has gone from strength to strength at Latymer and has provided plenty
of opportunity for girls to get involved. Additional training sessions have become part of the season calendar
and we have been fortunate enough to have the expertise of a coach (Hannah Hollis) train us in weekly
sessions. Furthermore, it has become customary for senior players to help, coach and umpire the younger
players creating a real team spirit across the whole school.
In Football, yet again, Latymer has positioned itself as the team to beat in the Borough. This year, the Senior
Girls had another extremely impressive season, with the Under 18 Team winning both the League and the
Borough Tournament and remaining unbeaten yet again.
Adding to our list of sporting victories and collection of silverware were the Year 8 and 9 Cross Country Teams,
who were crowned Enfield overall winners.
While it is easy to continue listing our students achievements, it is safe to say we would be nothing without the
amazing dedication of Miss Potter and Mrs Tether in the PE Department and all of the staff who run teams. As
the newly elected girls Sports Captains, we pledge our allegiance to sporting success at Latymer.
We aim to show commitment to the PE Department’s various crazy ideas, seek to encourage as many girls as
possible to get involved with sport at Latymer on whatever level, and maybe even provide enough enthusiasm
to fund an Astroturf! Through our last year at Latymer we are looking forward to representing the student
body from a sporting perspective, and hope that it will be another amazing year for Girls’ Sport at Latymer –
