The Latymer Link - page 17

n 26th November 2013 the GCSE Drama students and A’level Theatre
Studies students took a trip to The Royal National Theatre to see a new
adaption of ‘Emil and The Detectives’, a classic tale of a boy learning to rely on
himself – and on his new friends. The Olivier stage is transformed into 1920s
Berlin; a place full of surprises and danger, where everything moves at the
speed of your imagination. The novel is by Erich Kastner.
The Latymer Drama Department frequently organise theatre visits to the
West End, The National Theatre, Almeida, Royal Court and more. However, this
particular trip had some interesting Latymer connections. The adaptation was
written by Carl Miller the father of George Grun who was a pupil at Latymer
from 2008-2013, Noa Craig, currently in 9D, is in the production playing a
detective in the ensemble and the part of ‘Emil’ is played by Ethan Hammer –
Mrs Hammer’s son.
