UR SCHOOL
play
this
term
was
the
epic
drama
Corom
Boy by
Helen Edmundson, adapted
from
the novel
by
Jamila Gavin. The play
was
performed for
three
nights in
the
Great
Hall
from
Thursday
24
to
Saturday
26
November.
Originally performed
at
the
National
Theatre in
2005,
this
large scale produc-
tion
offered plenty of
acting
opportuni-
Coram
Boy
ties
for
the senior students
in
the
school
to
demonstrate
their
dramatic
talents.
As
well
as
the
large cast,
the
production
also
featured
an onstage
choir
and
a
live
string quartet,
which
played
throughout.
Coram
Boy
is
to
some
extent
a
good
old-fashioned
melodrama and
the
music
was
used
to
help
to
create
mood
of the
piece
-
both gothic
and
sentimental
by
turns.
With
costumes and props hired
from
the
National
Theatre
(some
of
which were
used in
the
original
produc-
tion
of
the
play)
this
was an exciting
and
often
spectacular
drama production
involving
a
substantial number
of
Latymer
students both
on stage
and
behind the
scenes.
