Young Writers

We are pleased to announce that Lily Harbron (Year 12) has won a certificate of merit from the Young Writers Organisation. Her poem Pandemic has been selected for publication in the Young Writers’ Anthology ‘Through Their Eyes.’

Congratulations to Lily on this fantastic achievement.

Pandemic
Stay home they say, wash hands and do not go outside
No friends to see, no school to visit, only in the garden to plain hide
Food shops with limited numbers, queues going out the door
Quick! Shove on that mask whilst grandad stays home, safe and snores

Colouring books, reading, at home workouts in the dozen
I miss my nan, my family and best of all my cousins
We try our best to make the most and ensure we are alright
But by the time I see my friends they would have grown a foot in height

BBQs, Netflix, Spotify - doesn't seem half bad
Only a shame we are stuck in all day, losing our wits and going half mad
Every day we lace our trainers and pace the roads we know
If we see some people, we cross the road and keep our heads down low

What a sad day today may seem,
Sometimes I feel like a hare, caught in full beam

But just remember the ‘stay at home’ tick bomb is getting less and less
And remind yourself why we are doing this - to protect our NHS
In a few years time, all this chaos will be safe in the past
Britain, we need to push through now, to ensure we finish this thing fast.
