Latymer celebrated World Book Day 2017 with a visit from Evie Wyld and Joe Sumner, author and illustrator of the graphic memoir Everything is Teeth. Evie Wyld grew up in New South Wales. The story is about her lifelong fascination with sharks and how it developed from her childhood fears to a mature understanding of sharks in their environment. The story is vividly animated by her friend Joe Sumner's cartoon and photo realistic drawings.
Year 7 listened to Evie and Joe being interviewed by Mr Shahrad. They talked about their creative careers, and then examined some of the book's artwork in more detail. Students had the opportunity to ask questions. There was a comic drawing competition, which was won by Niya Porter, Year 7, with Rezwana Khan and Sophia Rodaway, Year 8, as runners up.
This was a unique and inspiring author visit, reflecting the strong interest of many students in the graphic novel form.
