World Book Day

This year, as we are not able to celebrate together in school, the English Department encouraged students to “share a story”, in line with the WBD focus this year. Students have been incredibly creative (especially given lockdown restrictions) and have shared stories with friends, family members, and even pets!

Hayley from Year 7 told us a little bit more… For this year’s World Book Day, I spent the week reading with my family, taking it in turns to read aloud. We even created the different characters voices for speech. I also read to my cat, Lily. I read books about dogs to her, because we are thinking of getting a dog for company (although I don’t think she really understood!)

I found reading aloud very useful as I took more time to familiarise myself with characters personalities and traits and tried to express that whilst reading. When I then returned to reading in my head, the characters and their traits had become clearer and more detailed.
