Welcome to the Latymer School Virtual Information Evening for Year 7 Entry for September 2021.

Open Evenings for Prospective Parents - Information

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions we have been unable to welcome prospective families to Latymer to meet with the students and staff.

We very much hope that we are able to resume visits in June 2021.

The students and staff have produced these additional information videos to give prospective students and parents more information about the school, a sense of the school ethos and values and an insight into the Latymer School community. We very much look forward to welcoming you in person to The Latymer School in the future.

Making a preference choice for Latymer on the Common Application Form. (CAF)

You will be aware of the London wide system for secondary transfer. The borough in which you live makes packs of information and CAF available in order to help you apply through this system. These are available now through Primary Schools. Please note that it is parental responsibility to familiarise yourselves with the Secondary Transfer procedures. It is important to take the time to read the Latymer admissions procedures, which are available on the school website, under 'admissions', so that you are aware of the school’s criteria for admitting students. You should also ensure that you are familiar with the admission arrangements for both The London Borough of Enfield and your own Local Authority if that is not Enfield. These can be found on Local Authority websites.

You will have already taken the test; which consisted of a combined Verbal Reasoning and Mathematics Paper which will be provided by GL Assessment, and a written English paper which is set by the school. Applicants are expected to show competence in skills appropriate to Key Stage 2 English and Mathematics, and to be able to apply these skills creatively.

Children with a Special Educational Need or Disability should not be disadvantaged in approaching the school for admission. You will have had the opportunity to indicate that your child has SEND on the registration form and provide supporting evidence.

Please note that you can’t get a place at Latymer unless you name Latymer as one of the preferences on your CAF.

You must list your preference schools in strict order (e.g. your first preferred school should be number 1 on your CAF, then preferred school 2, etc). The school cannot advise parents on the preference order, as this is your preference. The school you think is your preferred preference should go first, so make your preference the real preference. Remember that we do also have an 'inner area' for admissions, and you must reside here to take up a place at the Latymer School.

We aim to advise parents if their child is in the top 650, during the first week in November. Local Authorities will show flexibility to parents who wish to make a late preference for selective schools.

We understand that the process of doing the tests and then applying for a secondary place is stressful but we hope this information is helpful.
