ISSUE 46 - FEBRUARY 2015
I
n accordance with tradition, as Head Boy, I
was honoured to co-present the Latymer Awards
Ceremony 2015 alongside Head Girl, Jamila
Phillips. As usual, there was a packed audience
of both proud parents and last years’ sixth form
leavers to celebrate both the academic and
extracurricular achievements of students at the
school.
The occasion was made all the more special as it
took place just a few days after Mr Garbett had
announced his retirement, making it his final
Awards Ceremony as Head Teacher. In his speech,
Mr Garbett encouraged Latymer students to
continue to share their talents and skills beyond
the boundaries of the school gates with the local
community.
Mr Sutters then took the opportunity to introduce
himself as the new Chair of Governors for the
school and also paid tribute to his predecessor,
Mr Pilsworth, who had committed over 20 years
to the role. During his time, he oversaw the
implementation of many significant enhancements
to the school including the Mills Building, Sports
Hall and Seward Studio that are now integral parts
of school life.
In a break from the formal presentation of
awards, the World Percussion Ensemble, using
nothing more than frying pans and drumsticks,
treated guests to a highly original performance of
‘Pancakes!’ – receiving fervent applause.
