I have just returned from accompanying the Russian exchange to St Petersburg; it was my first time in Russia and it did not disappoint. Our hosts had organised an exciting trip for us and each day we were treated to the different sites of the town itself but also of Peterhof and Tsarkoye Selo. On several of our tours students from our host school acted as our guides and gave us rich and interesting talks about the history and culture of the sites. I think we were all moved at the memorial to those who lost their lives during the Siege of Leningrad made even more poignant by the presence of one of the teachers who lost an 11 month old sister during that difficult time. Latymer students were a credit to the school and their families throwing themselves into the Russian way of life and I am sure they struck up friendships which will last a life time.
Many thanks to Mrs. Heath and our hosts for such a memorable visit.
