Poem for Valentine's Day

I want to hold you forever
Until you melt into me like chocolate ice cream dripping onto the pavement
Like ice in the garage leaving wet puddles that I step into in my socks
I’ll hold you until the sun is snuffed out
And I want to fold into you like
A sofa bed transforming back into a sofa after my aunt comes to stay and the cushions are plumped and freshly washed
Like that mango pudding my grandmother always buys
Mixed carefully in the shop window
As toddlers press their faces into the glass and stare at the yellow spinning beauty of it.
And when we become this pulsating lump of jelly and bones
I’ll be happy
