Eco Soc – this month's eco challenge
We want to minimise the use of plastic water bottles in our school community, until eventually getting rid of them all together (we hope!). A step to this is the fancy new fountains put in over the summer. So, this months challenge is to bring in and fill a reusable bottle at them. Reusable bottles are now widely available, so we can choose to use those on a daily basis. If this was implemented as the norm, we could drastically reduce the amount of plastic pollution caused by our school and the world. Plastic pollution is a massive problem especially for our oceans and the plants, fish and animals that live there. It ends up in landfill where it stays there for hundreds of years. From there, it can get into our waterways and oceans, where it breaks down into Microplastics, which get eaten by the animals at the bottom of the food chain (plankton etc) and get accumilated as it goes up the chain. At the moment, there are more peices of plastic in the ocean than stars in the sky. Help us stop this number from rising! Note: Please don't refil disposable plastic bottles: the plastic particles can rub off into the water and be bad for your health!
