Last Friday (1st February) The Latymer School bridge team competed in its first competition, The Surrey Schools Salver. After a short train journey from Edmonton Green Station to Roehampton Bridge club, the team (consisting of Isaac, Nicole, Ivan and George) played five three board rounds. After a good start, we were second on the board, +18 IMPS, and going into the second session, we were all positive. Over the next 5 boards, we dropped to +5 IMPs, but remained second, with the people in first ascending to an uncatchable +60 IMPs (although their team did include teachers). Unfortunately, on the last board, 3 No Trumps doubled against us made +4, for a -1550 score to us, where at the other table 4 Spades made +1 for just a +650 gain. A total of 14 IMPs were lost, and due to the close nature of the tournament, our final position was 5th. An amazing effort from all the team, who have been coming to practice every week for over 3 months.
Many thanks to Miss Wood, who helped with organising the event, and escorted the team to the venue.
We are hoping to compete in another tournament in March, and if any new players wish to join, please contact Isaac Skevington in 11 Latymer.
