Postcode Criterion

Rationale for postcode criterion

  • a long journey to and from school may tire pupils and so they are disadvantaged when working on homework or coursework tasks
  • many extra-curricular activities occur after school, finishing at 17.00 or 17.30 hours.  During the winter months this would be journeys in darkness
  • there are a number of out of hours learning activities (ICT, food hygiene certification) which could also affect school departure time.

The postcode criteria is:

  • Those who live in the following postcode areas:
    E2, E4, E5, E8, E9, E17
    EN1, EN2, EN3, EN4, EN5 Sectors 2, 4, 5, EN8 Sectors 7, 8, 9AA-9JL
    N1, N2, N3, N4, N5, N6, N7, N8, N9, N10, N11, N12, N13, N14, N15, N16, N17, N18, N19, N20, N21, N22

Are you planning to move into the Latymer area from elsewhere?

If so, you must attach to your application form:

  • a letter from a solicitor indicating your intent

or

  • a rental agency agreement for a property you intend to move into.
If you do not live in one of the published postcode areas and provide neither, your child will only be tested if the school is under-subscribed.

What happens if you succeed in gaining a place at Latymer?

The Governors' admission decisions are made in late January/early February and they would expect to have confirmation of the new address by that time.  If this information is not available a place cannot be offered.  You will receive notification on or about the 1st March that a place would be available only if you can confirm you have moved. If you do not reside in one of the above postcodes, your child will only be tested if the school is under-subscribed. The offer of a place will stand until the start of the Independent Appeals process in April.

How can I decide?

Following your visits to the School you should decide if you wish to apply.  If the answer is yes then you should begin the search for a property nearer the school.  We need evidence of this (letter from solicitor, rental agency   etc) by <CLICK FOR DATES>. Your child will then take the test.  If they get to the second round you will need to provide us with more evidence by the end of January that you are in negotiation for a property nearer to the School.
