Options advice and guidance

Students should
  • research the information about the options choices on the internet or intranet;
  • discuss their ideas with their parents, subject teachers, form tutor, head of learning, head of careers. Miss Beskeen (Deputy Head-Curriculum) is happy to give advice when required;
  • choose subjects that they enjoy and meet any future requirements that can reasonably be anticipated;
  • choose subjects that give them the opportunity to study a broad range of subjects. In doing so we hope they will develop a wide range of skills. For example, they could choose a creative and a practical subject for their 2 free choices. Since most students will change their minds about a career a number of times before leaving school, the general aim is to avoid undue specialisation at this stage
  • should give careful consideration to the balance of work in GCSE courses and other school activities.
Students should not
  • choose subjects because a particular friend has chosen them.
  • make a choice based on their like or dislike of a particular teacher as there are many changes of teacher between Years 9 and 10.
